SOPHIE is being read The Museum of Astrology has issued its info-letter since 2003 and an increasing number of people are reading it. The graph speaks for itself. . IAU : 2003-UB313 has been named 'Eris' The International Astronomical Union has in mid-september named the new, largest dwarf planet after the greek goddess of strife, Eris. Mike Brown, the finder of Eris, sees the name as perfect after the turmoil around the planet definitions last month. . Longomontanus, The Museum of Astrology has issued its info-letter SOPHIE:18 containing a biography on the renaissance astrologer and professor of astronomy, Christen Longomontanus. Plus a biography on the astrological writer Jens Lauridsen Wolf, who studied under Longomontanus. Moreover a paper on popular astrology in the renaissance and a paper on Apheta and Anareta.
Astrology at the National Museum in Copenhagen Astrology comes into focus together with Tycho Brahe during the schools autumn vacation in October this year. Every morning at 11 hours there will be tales of Tycho the Astrologer and an astrology workshop for children of 8-12 years of age. .

Sophie Brahe, astrologer The Museum of Astrology has issued its info-letter SOPHIE:16 containing biographies on some of the first female astrologers, Sophie Brahe, Hypathia and Maria Cunitz. .
IAU : New class of dwarf planets The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has in a historical resolution decided upon a new class of planets, called dwarf planets. The newly discovered UB313 (nicknamed Xena) and the largest asteroid Ceres fall into this new category together with Pluto, that loses its place among the 'classic' planets. .
IAU: Are Xena and Ceres planets ? The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has presented a resolution draft, where Xena and the asteroid Ceres will be accepted as planets .Pluto retain its planetary status and may become the double planet Pluto-Charon. The draft has not been passed yet, but the vote will be on thursday 24th around 4 PM . IAU: Is Pluto a planet ? The discovery of Xena has had the consequence that the worlds astronomers now are forced to define precisely what seperates a planetoid from a planet. In the process Pluto may no longer be a planet but a KBO-planetoid, where KBO means Kuiper Belt Object. The matter will be resolved at a 3000 member convention of AUI in Prague, August 14th to 25th 2006. .
Petrus Flemlossius The info-letter of the museum, SOPHIE:15, contains a new biography on one of Tycho Brahes most trusted assistants: the astrologer, physician and astronomer Peder Flemløse (Petrus Flemlossius). Moreover it has two research papers. One on Tychos use of the eight-house system, and one on the use of tertiary directions. All in danish. .
Congress on DVD The historic congress 'Applied Astrology' in february this year has been preserved on DVD-video. All twelve lecturers has donated the footing to Museum of Astrology and the publisher Galaxen is now selling the videos to benefit the museum. The viedos are in 2 box sets of 6 DVD-videos, all in all more than 12 hours of high-level astrology. All in danish, alas. . Georgius Dibuadius The info-letter of the museum, SOPHIE:14, contains a new biography on the quarrelsome astrologer and professor of mathematics, Jørgen Dybvad, abroad better known under his latin name Georgius Dibuadius. He sent many students to the Uraniborg of Tycho Brahe and ended up as professor of theology. In his late years he was expelled from the University of Copenhagen and died in poverty. Furthermore SOPHIE:14 cantains a commented table of contents to alle 15 volumes of Tycho Brahe's Opera Omnia . . |
